Dramatic changes are in store for the operators of licensed Hotels and Community Clubs in Victoria under new conditions for the operation of gaming machines which come into effect from August 2012. The current system involving the two sole providers will change to allow individual licensed venues to bid for and obtain their own “entitlements” to purchase and operate their own choice of gaming machines, according to a number of Government established criteria. The first part of this auction process will be completed by mid 2010 and other decisions will parallel the allocations and other regulatory and commercial processes. Therefore from September 2010 onwards, the spotlight will be firmly on the Victorian hospitality industry as a whole as managers and directors in all privately and community owned venues, with and without gaming, plan for and set in place their purchasing hit lists for machines and systems which they will need for the new regime in 2012.
